For 2015, there are 2,269.78 millions of card payment transactions in Italy(37.37 transactions per capita), an increase of 235.78 millions or 11.59% compares to 2,034.00 millions in 2014. Out of these transactions, 652.63 millions or 28.75% is paid by cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function, an increase of 8.67 millions or 1.35% compares to 643.96 millions in 2014. The rest of card payment transactions(1,617.15 millions) are paid by debit cards, an increase of 227.09 millions or 16.34% compares to 1,390.06 millions in 2014. Italy total card payment transactions volume contributes 4.29% to the EU total number of transactions.

The total card payments for 2015 is €157.34 billions in value(€2.59 thousands per capita), an increase of €15.06 billions or 10.58% compares to €142.28 billions in 2014. This translates into €69.3 per card payment transaction, a decrease from €70.0 in 2014, ranked third after Luxembourg €70.7 and Cyprus €72.7 per card payment transaction. This figure also meant payment cards are used only for large amount purchases in Italy. Out of these transactions, €54.15 billions or 34.42% is paid by cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function, an increase of €0.24 billions or 0.45% compares to €53.91 billions in 2014. The total card payments for 2014 is €142.28 billions in value(€2.34 thousands per capita), an increase of €12.65 billions or 9.76% compares to €129.63 billions in 2013. This translates into €70.0 per card payment transaction, a decrease from €71.5 in 2013, ranked fourth after Germany €77.1, Luxembourg €72.1 and Cyprus €71.5 per card payment transaction. This figure also meant payment cards are used only for large amount purchases in Italy. Out of these transactions, €53.91 billions or 37.89% is paid by cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function, an increase of €3.06 billions or 6.02% compares to €50.85 billions in 2013. The rest of card payments, €88.37 billions in value is paid by debit cards, an increase of €9.58 billions or 12.16% compares to €78.79 billions in 2013. Italy total card payment value contributes 6.10% to the EU total transactions value.
Although there is a dropped of 3.50% in cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function, the transactions volume and value are not affected with 9.62% and 6.02% increased respectively.

The total card payments for 2013 is €129.63 billions in value(€2.14 thousands per capita), an increase of €6.35 billions or 5.15% compares to €123.28 billions in 2012. This translates into €71.5 per card payment transaction, a decrease from €75.7 in 2012, ranked fourth after Cyprus €77.8, Luxembourg €74.5 and Greece €74.1 per card payment transaction. This figure also meant payment cards are used only for large amount purchases in Italy. Out of these transactions, €50.85 billions or 39.23% is paid by cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function, an increase of €1.27 billions or 2.56% compares to €49.58 billions in 2012. The rest of card payments, €78.79 billions in value is paid by debit cards, an increase of €5.09 billions or 6.91% compares to €73.70 billions in 2012. Italy total card payment value contributes 6.01% to the EU total transactions value.
Although there is a dropped of 3.17% in cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function, the transactions volume is not affected with 9.30% increased. However, the transactions value stagnant with only 2.56% growth.

This translates into €75.7 per card payment transaction, a decrease from €78.2 in 2011, ranked fourth after Cyprus €84.5, Greece €80.1 and Luxembourg €77.2 per card payment transaction. This figure also meant payment cards are used only for large amount purchases in Italy. Out of these transactions, €49.58 billions or 40.22% is paid by cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function, a decrease of €6.02 billions or 10.83% compares to €55.60 billions in 2011. The total card payments for 2011 is €122.61 billions in value(€2.04 thousands per capita), an increase of €2.63 billions or 2.19% compares to €119.98 billions in 2010. This translates into €78.2 per card payment transaction, a decrease from €79.9 in 2010, ranked fourth after Greece €84.7, Cyprus €84.7 and Luxembourg €79.4 per card payment transaction. This figure also meant payment cards are used only for large amount purchases in Italy. Out of these transactions, €55.60 billions or 45.35% is paid by cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function, a decrease of €1.17 billions or 2.06% compares to €56.77 billions in 2010. Although there is a significant dropped of 11.99% in cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function, the transactions volume is almost unaffected with 0.32% decreased. However, the transactions value decrease slightly by 2.06%.

This figure also meant payment cards are used only for large amount purchases in Italy.
