  • 5,803,600 cards with a debit and/or delayed debit function as at 31st December 2016, a decrease of 727,500 or 11.14% compares to 6,531,100 in 31st December 2015.
  • 8,839,700 cards with a delayed debit function as at 31st December 2016, an increase of 1,279,400 or 16.92% compares to 7,560,300 in 31st December 2015.

Total Card Payments in Volume and Value

For 2016, there are 10,997.0 millions of card payment transactions in France(164.38 transactions per capita), an increase of 709.5 millions or 6.90% compares to 10,287.5 millions in 2015. The total card payments for 2016 is €492.1 billions in value(€7.36 thousands per capita), an increase of €20.0 billions or 4.24% compares to €472.1 billions in 2015. This also translates into €44.7 per card payment transaction, a decrease from €45.9 in 2015. France total card payment value contributes 16.86% to the EU total transactions value. France has the second highest total card payment value, after United Kingdom and Germany comes in distant 3rd with 8.91% contribution. The combines €1,587.5 billions of card payment value in France and UK made up half, 54.37% of the EU total card payments value.

For 2015, there are 10,287.5 millions of card payment transactions in France(155.46 transactions per capita), an increase of 849.6 millions or 9.00% compares to 9,437.9 millions in 2014. The total card payments for 2015 is €472.1 billions in value(€7.09 thousands per capita), an increase of €28.8 billions or 6.50% compares to €443.3 billions in 2014. This also translates into €45.9 per card payment transaction, a decrease from €47.0 in 2014. France total card payment value contributes 18.19% to the EU total transactions value. France has the second highest total card payment value, after United Kingdom and Germany comes in distant 3rd3 with 9.47% contribution. The combines €1,151.1 billions of card payment value in France and UK made up nearly half, 44.6% of the EU total card payments value.

Despite decreased in the number of payment cards, the total card payment transactions volume and value continued to grow.


Credit Cards in France 2013-2014
