As at 31st December 2015, there are 70,252,170 payment cards issued in Spain(1.51 cards per capita), an increase of 2,258,500 or 3.32% compares to 67,993,670 in 2014.
There are 45,152,590 cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Spain as at 31st December 2015, an increase of 1,575,580 or 3.62% compares to 43,577,010 in 2014.
Debit cards increase by 682,920 or 2.80% to 25,099,580 in 2015, compares to 24,416,660 in 2014.

**Total Card Payments in Volume and Value**

For 2015, there are 2,987.12 millions of card payment transactions in Spain(64.34 transactions per capita), an increase of 226.92 millions or 8.22% compares to 2,760.20 millions in 2014.
Out of these transactions, 1,275.10 millions or 42.69% is paid by cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function, a decrease of 97.7 millions or 7.12% compares to 1,372.80 millions
in 2014. The rest of card payment transactions(1,712.02 millions) are paid by debit cards, an increase of 324.62 millions or 23.40% compares to 1,387.40 millions in 2014. Spain total card
payment transactions volume contributes 5.64% to the EU total number of transactions.

The total card payments for 2015 is €131.04 billions in value(€2.82 thousands per capita), an increase of €9.14 billions or 7.50% compares to €121.90 billions in 2014.
This also translates into €43.9 per card payment transaction, a decrease from €44.2 in 2014. Out of these transactions, €63.39 billions or 48.37% is paid by cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function,
a decrease of €2.32 billions or 3.53% compares to €65.71 billions in 2014. The rest of card payments, €67.65 billions in value is paid by debit cards, an increase of €11.47 billions or 20.42% compares to €56.18
billions in 2014. Spain total card payment value contributes 5.07% to the EU total transactions value.

Despite the increased of 3.62% in the number of transactions for credit and/or delayed debit function, the total card payments volume and value have decreased by 7.12% and 3.53% respectively.

Spain Quarterly Credit Card Statistics 2015
As at 31st March 2015, there are 43.09 millions credit card in Spain, a decrease by 0.15 millions or 0.35% compares to 43.24 millions as at 31st December 2014.
Whereas the number of debit cards stood at 24.40 millions. For the three months ended 31st March 2015, there are 610.864 millions payment card transactions recorded at retailers(point of sales), with a total value of €25,203.69 millions.

As at 30th June 2015, there are 43.64 millions credit card in Spain, an increase by 0.55 millions or 1.28% compares to 43.09 millions as at 31st March 2015.
Whereas the number of debit cards stood at 24.61 millions. For the three months ended 30th June 2015, there are 669.730 millions payment card transactions recorded at retailers(point of sales), with a total value of €27,844.09 millions.

As at 30th June 2015, the number of credit cards in Spain has increase by 0.93% or 0.4 millions compares to 43.24 millions as at 31st December 2014. There are 1,280.594 millions payment card transactions recorded in the six months period ended 30th June 2015,
with a total value of €53,047.78 millions.

As at 30th September 2015, there are 44.37 millions credit card in Spain, an increase by 0.73 millions or 1.67% compares to 43.64 millions as at 30th June 2015.
Whereas the number of debit cards stood at 24.98 millions. For the three months ended 30th September 2015, there are 694.062 millions payment card transactions recorded at retailers(point of sales), with a total value of €29,429.51 millions.

As at 30th September 2015, the number of credit cards in Spain has increase by 2.61% or 1.13 millions compares to 43.24 millions as at 31st December 2014. There are 1,974.656 millions payment card transactions recorded in the nine months period ended 30th September 2015,
with a total value of €82,477.29 millions.

As at 31st December 2015, there are 44.82 millions credit card in Spain, an increase by 0.45 millions or 1.01% compares to 44.37 millions as at 30th September 2015.
Whereas the number of debit cards stood at 25.10 millions. For the three months ended 31st December 2015, there are 709.201 millions payment card transactions recorded at retailers(point of sales), with a total value of €29,852.97 millions.

As at 31st December 2015, the number of credit cards in Spain has increase by 3.65% or 1.58 millions compares to 43.24 millions as at 31st December 2014. There are 2,683.857 millions payment card transactions recorded in the twelve months period ended 31st December 2015,
with a total value of €112,330.26 millions.

Credit Cards in Spain 2013-2014
As of 2014, Spain has a population of 46.46 millions with a GDP(gross domestic product) of €1,037.03 billions. This
translates into €22.32 thousands of GDP per capita. Spain contributes 7.41% of the EU total GDP.

As at 31st December 2014, there are 67,993,670 payment cards issued in Spain(1.46 cards per capita), a decrease of 1,755,700 or 2.52% compares to 69,749,370 in 2013.
There are 43,577,010 cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Spain as at 31st December 2014, an increase of 312,540 or 0.72% compares to 43,264,470 in 2013.
Debit cards decrease by 2,068,240 or 7.81% to 24,416,660 in 2014, compares to 26,484,900 in 2013.

**Total Card Payments in Volume and Value**

For 2014, there are 2,760.20 millions of card payment transactions in Spain(59.41 transactions per capita), an increase of 263.9 millions or 10.57% compares to 2,496.30 millions in 2013.
Out of these transactions, 1,372.80 millions or 49.74% is paid by cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function, an increase of 62.45 millions or 4.77% compares to 1,310.35 millions
in 2013. The rest of card payment transactions(1,387.40 millions) are paid by debit cards, an increase of 212.74 millions or 18.11% compares to 1,174.66 millions in 2013. Spain total card
payment transactions volume contributes 5.81% to the EU total number of transactions.

The total card payments for 2014 is €121.90 billions in value(€2.62 thousands per capita), an increase of €13.22 billions or 12.16% compares to €108.68 billions in 2013.
This also translates into €44.2 per card payment transaction, an increase from €43.5 in 2013. Out of these transactions, €65.71 billions or 53.90% is paid by cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function,
an increase of €5.15 billions or 8.50% compares to €60.56 billions in 2013. The rest of card payments, €56.18 billions in value is paid by debit cards, an increase of €8.25 billions or 17.21% compares to €47.93
billions in 2013. Spain total card payment value contributes 5.23% to the EU total transactions value.

Despite the small increased of 0.72% in the number of transactions for credit and/or delayed debit function, the total card payments volume and value have increased by 4.77% and 8.50% respectively.

Spain Quarterly Credit Card Statistics 2014
As at 31st December 2014, there are 43.24 millions credit card in Spain, an increase by 0.02 millions or 0.05% compares to 43.22 millions as at 30th September 2014.
Whereas the number of debit cards stood at 24.41 millions. For the three months ended 31st December 2014, there are 661.385 millions payment card transactions recorded at retailers(point of sales), with a total value of €27,995.22 millions.

As at 31st December 2014, the number of credit cards in Spain has decrease by 0.05% or 0.02 millions compares to 43.26 millions as at 31st December 2013. There are 2,502.611 millions payment card transactions recorded in the twelve months period ended 31st December 2014,
with a total value of €105,854.26 millions.

As at 30th September 2014, there are 43.22 millions credit card in Spain, a decrease by 0.14 millions or 0.32% compares to 43.36 millions as at 30th June 2014.
Whereas the number of debit cards stood at 25.06 millions. For the three months ended 30th September 2014, there are 645.468 millions payment card transactions recorded at retailers(point of sales), with a total value of €27,734.15 millions.

As at 30th September 2014, the number of credit cards in Spain has decrease by 0.09% or 0.04 millions compares to 43.26 millions as at 31st December 2013. There are 1,841.227 millions payment card transactions recorded in the nine months period ended 30th September 2014,
with a total value of €77,859.04 millions.

As at 30th June 2014, there are 43.36 millions credit card in Spain, an increase by 0.47 millions or 1.10% compares to 42.89 millions as at 31st March 2014.
Whereas the number of debit cards stood at 25.07 millions. For the three months ended 30th June 2014, there are 618.147 millions payment card transactions recorded at retailers(point of sales), with a total value of €26,217.91 millions.

As at 30th June 2014, the number of credit cards in Spain has increase by 0.23% or 0.1 millions compares to 43.26 millions as at 31st December 2013. There are 1,195.759 millions payment card transactions recorded in the six months period ended 30th June 2014,
with a total value of €50,124.89 millions.

As at 31st March 2014, there are 42.89 millions credit card in Spain, a decrease by 0.37 millions or 0.86% compares to 43.26 millions as at 31st December 2013.
Whereas the number of debit cards stood at 25.5 millions. For the three months ended 31st March 2014, there are 577.612 millions payment card transactions recorded at retailers(point of sales), with a total value of €23,906.98 millions.

Credit Cards in Spain 2012-2013
As of 2013, Spain has a population of 46.59 millions with a GDP(gross domestic product) of €1,031.27 billions. This
translates into €22.13 thousands of GDP per capita. Spain contributes 7.62% of the EU total GDP.

As at 31st December 2013, there are 69,749,370 payment cards issued in Spain(1.50 cards per capita), an increase of 949,720 or 1.38% compares to 68,799,650 in 2012.
There are 43,264,470 cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Spain as at 31st December 2013, an increase of 1,932,780 or 4.68% compares to 41,331,690 in 2012.
Debit cards decrease by 983,060 or 3.58% to 26,484,900 in 2013, compares to 27,467,960 in 2012.

The number of cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function has increased after sliding for four consecutive years since 2009.

**Total Card Payments in Volume and Value**

For 2013, there are 2,496.30 millions of card payment transactions in Spain(53.58 transactions per capita), an increase of 80.58 millions or 3.34% compares to 2,415.72 millions in 2012.
Out of these transactions, 1,310.35 millions or 52.49% is paid by cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function, an increase of 7.08 millions or 0.54% compares to 1,303.27 millions
in 2012. The rest of card payment transactions(1,174.66 millions) are paid by debit cards, an increase of 78.37 millions or 7.15% compares to 1,096.29 millions in 2012. Spain total card
payment transactions volume contributes 5.72% to the EU total number of transactions.

The total card payments for 2013 is €108.68 billions in value(€2.33 thousands per capita), an increase of €1.97 billions or 1.85% compares to €106.71 billions in 2012.
This also translates into €43.5 per card payment transaction, a decrease from €44.2 in 2012. Out of these transactions, €60.56 billions or 55.72% is paid by cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function,
a decrease of €0.49 billions or 0.80% compares to €61.05 billions in 2012. The rest of card payments, €47.93 billions in value is paid by debit cards, an increase of €2.52 billions or 5.55% compares to €45.41
billions in 2012. Spain total card payment value contributes 5.04% to the EU total transactions value.

The increase in the number of transactions for credit and/or delayed debit function has failed to spurs the growth of total card payments volume and value.

Spain Quarterly Credit Card Statistics 2013
As at 31st March 2013, there are 40.70 millions credit card in Spain, a decrease by 0.63 millions or 1.52% compares to 41.33 millions as at 31st December 2012.
Whereas the number of debit cards remained the same at 27.47 millions. For the three months ended 31st March 2013, there are 537.766 millions payment card transactions recorded at retailers(point of sales), with a total value of €22,495.40 millions.

As at 30th June 2013, there are 40.65 millions credit card in Spain, a decrease by 0.05 millions or 0.12% compares to 40.70 millions as at 31st March 2013.
Whereas the number of debit cards stood at 27.70 millions. For the three months ended 30th June 2013, there are 567.203 millions payment card transactions recorded at retailers(point of sales), with a total value of €24,027.75 millions.

As at 30th June 2013, the number of credit cards in Spain has decrease by 1.65% or 0.68 millions compares to 41.33 millions as at 31st December 2012. There are 1,104.969 millions payment card transactions recorded in the six months period ended 30th June 2013,
with a total value of €46,523.15 millions.

As at 30th September 2013, there are 42.83 millions credit card in Spain, an increase by 2.18 millions or 5.36% compares to 40.65 millions as at 30th June 2013.
Whereas the number of debit cards stood at 26.35 millions. For the three months ended 30th September 2013, there are 594.025 millions payment card transactions recorded at retailers(point of sales), with a total value of €25,837.99 millions.

As at 30th September 2013, the number of credit cards in Spain has increase by 3.63% or 1.50 millions compares to 41.33 millions as at 31st December 2012. There are 1,698.994 millions payment card transactions recorded in the nine months period ended 30th September 2013,
with a total value of €72,361.14 millions.

As at 31st December 2013, there are 43.26 millions credit card in Spain, an increase by 0.43 millions or 1.00% compares to 42.83 millions as at 30th September 2013.
Whereas the number of debit cards stood at 26.48 millions. For the three months ended 31st December 2013, there are 606.663 millions payment card transactions recorded at retailers(point of sales), with a total value of €26,173.45 millions.

As at 31st December 2013, the number of credit cards in Spain has increase by 4.67% or 1.93 millions compares to 41.33 millions as at 31st December 2012. There are 2,305.657 millions payment card transactions recorded in the twelve months period ended 31st December 2013,
with a total value of €98,534.58 millions.

Credit Cards in Spain 2011-2012
As of 2012, Spain has a population of 46.77 millions with a GDP(gross domestic product) of €1,042.87 billions. This
translates into €22.30 thousands of GDP per capita. Spain contributes 7.79% of the EU total GDP.

As at 31st December 2012, there are 68,799,650 payment cards issued in Spain(1.47 cards per capita), a decrease of 169,860 or 0.25% compares to 68,969,510 in 2011.
There are 41,331,690 cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Spain as at 31st December 2012, a decrease of 558,870 or 1.33% compares to 41,890,560 in 2011.
Debit cards increase by 389,010 or 1.44% to 27,467,960 in 2012, compares to 27,078,950 in 2011.

The number of cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function continue to slight for fourth consecutive years since 2009. However, the number of debit cards has increase after 3 years of slump since 2009.

**Total Card Payments in Volume and Value**

For 2012, there are 2,415.72 millions of card payment transactions in Spain(51.65 transactions per capita), an increase of 29.45 millions or 1.23% compares to 2,386.27 millions in 2011.
Out of these transactions, 1,303.27 millions or 53.95% is paid by cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function, an increase of 1.05 millions or 0.08% compares to 1,302.22 millions
in 2011. The rest of card payment transactions(1,096.29 millions) are paid by debit cards, an increase of 33.99 millions or 3.20% compares to 1,062.30 millions in 2011. Spain total card
payment transactions volume contributes 6.07% to the EU total number of transactions.

The total card payments for 2012 is €106.71 billions in value(€2.28 thousands per capita), a decrease of €0.58 billions or 0.54% compares to €107.29 billions in 2011.
This also translates into €44.2 per card payment transaction, a marginal decrease from €45 in 2011. Out of these transactions, €61.05 billions or 57.21% is paid by cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function,
a decrease of €1.05 billions or 1.69% compares to €62.10 billions in 2011. The rest of card payments, €45.41 billions in value is paid by debit cards, an increase of €0.54 billions or 1.20% compares to €44.87
billions in 2011. Spain total card payment value contributes 5.24% to the EU total transactions value.

The decrease in the number of transactions for credit and/or delayed debit function has affected the growth of total card payments volume and value.

Credit Cards in Spain 2010-2011
As of 2011, Spain has a population of 46.74 millions with a GDP(gross domestic product) of €1,070.41 billions. This
translates into €22.90 thousands of GDP per capita. Spain contributes 8.15% of the EU total GDP.

As at 31st December 2011, there are 68,969,510 payment cards issued in Spain(1.48 cards per capita), a decrease of 2,611,270 or 3.65% compares to 71,580,780 in 2010.
There are 41,890,560 cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Spain as at 31st December 2011, a decrease of 1,073,320 or 2.50% compares to 42,963,880 in 2010.
Debit cards decrease by 1,537,950 or 5.73% to 27,078,950 in 2011, compares to 28,616,900 in 2010.

The number of payment cards(both debit cards and credit cards) continue to slight for three consecutive years since 2009.

**Total Card Payments in Volume and Value**

For 2011, there are 2,386.27 millions of card payment transactions in Spain(51.05 transactions per capita), an increase of 99.37 millions or 4.35% compares to 2,286.90 millions in 2010.
Out of these transactions, 1,302.22 millions or 54.57% is paid by cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function, an increase of 40.74 millions or 3.23% compares to 1,261.48 millions
in 2010. The rest of card payment transactions(1,062.30 millions) are paid by debit cards, an increase of 65.18 millions or 6.54% compares to 997.12 millions in 2010. Spain total card
payment transactions volume contributes 6.43% to the EU total number of transactions.

The total card payments for 2011 is €107.29 billions in value(€2.30 thousands per capita), an increase of €3.65 billions or 3.52% compares to €103.64 billions in 2010.
This also translates into €45 per card payment transaction, a marginal decrease from €45.3 in 2010. Out of these transactions, €62.10 billions or 57.88% is paid by cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function,
an increase of €1.46 billions or 2.41% compares to €60.64 billions in 2010. The rest of card payments, €44.87 billions in value is paid by debit cards, an increase of €2.27 billions or 5.33% compares to €42.60
billions in 2010. Spain total card payment value contributes 5.61% to the EU total transactions value.

Despite the decrease in the number of credit and/or delayed debit function as well as debit cards, the growth of total card payments volume and value continues.

Credit Cards in Spain 2009-2010
As of 2010, Spain has a population of 46.56 millions with a GDP(gross domestic product) of €1,080.91 billions. This
translates into €23.21 thousands of GDP per capita. Spain contributes 8.48% of the EU total GDP.

As at 31st December 2010, there are 71,580,780 payment cards issued in Spain(1.54 cards per capita), a decrease of 2,937,430 or 3.94% compares to 74,518,210 in 2009.
There are 42,963,880 cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Spain as at 31st December 2010, a decrease of 809,710 or 1.85% compares to 43,773,590 in 2009.
Debit cards decrease by 2,127,720 or 6.92% to 28,616,900 in 2010, compares to 30,744,620 in 2009.

**Total Card Payments in Volume and Value**

For 2010, there are 2,286.90 millions of card payment transactions in Spain(49.11 transactions per capita), an increase of 129.89 millions or 6.02% compares to 2,157.01 millions in 2009.
Out of these transactions, 1,261.48 millions or 55.16% is paid by cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function, an increase of 92.3 millions or 7.89% compares to 1,169.18 millions
in 2009. The rest of card payment transactions(997.12 millions) are paid by debit cards, an increase of 44.8 millions or 4.7% compares to 952.32 millions in 2009. Spain total card
payment transactions volume contributes 6.76% to the EU total number of transactions.

The total card payments for 2010 is €103.64 billions in value(€2.23 thousands per capita), an increase of €4.98 billions or 5.05% compares to €98.66 billions in 2009.
This also translates into €45.3 per card payment transaction, a marginal decrease from €45.7 in 2009. Out of these transactions, €60.64 billions or 58.51% is paid by cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function,
an increase of €3.62 billions or 6.35% compares to €57.02 billions in 2009. The rest of card payments, €42.60 billions in value is paid by debit cards, an increase of €1.45 billions or 3.52% compares to €41.15
billions in 2009. Spain total card payment value contributes 5.82% to the EU total transactions value.

The decrease in the number of credit and/or delayed debit function as well as debit cards do not affect the growth of total card payments volume and value.

Credit Cards in Spain 2008-2009
As of 2009, Spain has a population of 45.93 millions with a GDP(gross domestic product) of €1,053.91 billions. This
translates into €22.95 thousands of GDP per capita. Spain contributes 8.94% of the EU total GDP.

As at 31st December 2009, there are 74,518,210 payment cards issued in Spain(1.62 cards per capita), a decrease of 1,876,950 or 2.46% compares to 76,395,160 in 2008.
There are 43,773,590 cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Spain as at 31st December 2009, a decrease of 1,046,650 or 2.34% compares to 44,820,240 in 2008.
Debit cards decrease by 830,300 or 2.63% to 30,744,620 in 2009, compares to 31,574,920 in 2008.

**Total Card Payments in Volume and Value**

For 2009, there are 2,157.01 millions of card payment transactions in Spain(46.96 transactions per capita), an increase of 58.65 millions or 2.8% compares to 2,098.36 millions in 2008.
Out of these transactions, 1,169.18 millions or 54.2% is paid by cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function, an increase of 24.83 millions or 2.17% compares to 1,144.35 millions
in 2008. The rest of card payment transactions(952.32 millions) are paid by debit cards, an increase of 30.85 millions or 3.35% compares to 921.47 millions in 2008. Spain total card
payment transactions volume contributes 6.84% to the EU total number of transactions.

The total card payments for 2009 is €98.66 billions in value(€2.15 thousands per capita), a decrease of €3.25 billions or 3.19% compares to €101.91 billions in 2008.
This also translates into €45.7 per card payment transaction, a decrease from €48.6 in 2008. Out of these transactions, €57.02 billions or 57.79% is paid by cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function,
a decrease of €2.82 billions or 4.71% compares to €59.84 billions in 2008. The rest of card payments, €41.15 billions in value is paid by debit cards, a decrease of €0.53 billions or 1.27% compares to €41.68
billions in 2008. Spain total card payment value contributes 6.05% to the EU total transactions value.

The decrease in the number of credit and/or delayed debit function as well as debit cards has affected the growth of total card payments in value. However, it does not affect the growth of total card payments in volume.

Credit Cards in Spain 2007-2008
As of 2008, Spain has a population of 45.59 millions with a GDP(gross domestic product) of €1,095.16 billions. This
translates into €24.02 thousands of GDP per capita. Spain contributes 8.75% of the EU total GDP.

As at 31st December 2008, there are 76,395,160 payment cards issued in Spain(1.68 cards per capita), an increase of 1,435,860 or 1.92% compares to 74,959,300 in 2007.
There are 44,820,240 cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Spain as at 31st December 2008, an increase of 1,328,380 or 3.05% compares to 43,491,860 in 2007.
Debit cards increase by 107,480 or 0.34% to 31,574,920 in 2008, compares to 31,467,440 in 2007.

**Total Card Payments in Volume and Value**

For 2008, there are 2,098.36 millions of card payment transactions in Spain(46.02 transactions per capita), an increase of 152.70 millions or 7.85% compares to 1,945.66 millions in 2007.
Out of these transactions, 1,144.35 millions or 54.54% is paid by cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function, an increase of 106.90 millions or 10.30% compares to 1,037.45 millions
in 2007. The rest of card payment transactions(921.47 millions) are paid by debit cards. Spain total card payment transactions volume contributes 7.11% to
the EU total number of transactions.

The total card payments for 2008 is €101.91 billions in value(€2.24 thousands per capita), an increase of €5.29 billions or 5.48% compares to €96.62 billions in 2007.
This also translates into €48.6 per card payment transaction, a decrease from €49.7 in 2007. Out of these transactions, €59.84 billions or 58.72% is paid by cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function,
an increase of €3.54 billions or 6.29% compares to €56.30 billions in 2007. The rest of card payments, €41.68 billions in value is paid by debit cards. Spain total card payment
value contributes 6.11% to the EU total transactions value.
