For 2014, there are 2,034.00 millions of card payment transactions in Italy(33.45 transactions per capita), an increase of 220.79 millions or 12.18% compares to 1,813.21 millions in 2013. Out of these transactions, 643.96 millions or 31.66% is paid by cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function, an increase of 56.51 millions or 9.62% compares to 587.45 millions in 2013. The rest of card payment transactions(1,390.06 millions) are paid by debit cards, an increase of 164.29 millions or 13.40% compares to 1,225.77 millions in 2013. Italy total card payment transactions volume contributes 4.28% to the EU total number of transactions.

The total card payments for 2014 is €142.28 billions in value(€2.34 thousands per capita), an increase of €12.65 billions or 9.76% compares to €129.63 billions in 2013. This translates into €70.0 per card payment transaction, a decrease from €71.5 in 2013, ranked fourth after Germany €77.1, Luxembourg €72.1 and Cyprus €71.5 per card payment transaction. This figure also meant payment cards are used only for large amount purchases in Italy. Out of these transactions, €53.91 billions or 37.89% is paid by cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function, an increase of €3.06 billions or 6.02% compares to €50.85 billions in 2013. The rest of card payments, €88.37 billions in value is paid by debit cards, an increase of €9.58 billions or 12.16% compares to €78.79 billions in 2013. Italy total card payment value contributes 6.10% to the EU total transactions value.
Although there is a dropped of 3.50% in cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function, the transactions volume and value are not affected with 9.62% and 6.02% increased respectively.

This translates into €71.5 per card payment transaction, a decrease from €75.7 in 2012, ranked fourth after Cyprus €77.8, Luxembourg €74.5 and Greece €74.1 per card payment transaction. This figure also meant payment cards are used only for large amount purchases in Italy. Out of these transactions, €50.85 billions or 39.23% is paid by cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function, an increase of €1.27 billions or 2.56% compares to €49.58 billions in 2012. Although there is a dropped of 3.17% in cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function, the transactions volume is not affected with 9.30% increased. However, the transactions value stagnant with only 2.56% growth.
