The £15.200 billion written premiums can be further divided into £13.930 billion for Life & Annuities(includes Ordinary Branch business, Savings and Protection products, ie Bonds, Endowments, Whole of Life, Term Assurance and Collective Life) and
£1.270 billion for Income Protection & Other Business(includes Long-term Care and Stand-Alone Critical Illness). Life & Annuities premiums decreased by £0.252 billion or 1.22% compares to £20.590 billion in 2009;
while Income Protection & Other Business premiums decreased by £0.097 billion or 7.10% compares to £1.367 billion in 2010.
Regular premiums amounted to £7.353 billion, a decrease of £1.301 billion or 15.03% compares to £8.654 billion in 2010. And single premiums amounted to to £7.209 billion, a decrease of £4.466 billion or 38.25% compares to £11.675 billion in 2010.
The £7.353 billion regular premiums is made up of £6.076 billion Life & Annuities and £1.277 billion for Income Protection & Other Business. The £7.209 billion single premiums is made up of £7.216 billion Life & Annuities and -£7 million for Income Protection & Other Business.
Benefits paid for life insurance is £35.046 billion in 2011, a decrease of £1.237 billion or 3.41% of compares to £36.283 billion in 2010. The £35.046 billion benefits paid can be broken down as £34.378 billion for Life & Annuities and £686 million for Income Protection & Other Business.
There are 44,953,000 of life insurance policies in force as at year ended 2011, a decrease of 3,238,000 or 6.72% compares to 48,191,000 as at year ended 2010. 38,004,000 policies is for Life & Annuities and 6,949,000 policies is for Income Protection & Other Business.
The 38,004,000 policies is for Life & Annuities in 2011 can be broken down as:-
- 28.4 million protection, term and whole life policies are in force where customers received benefits of around £36.8 million per day.
- 9.6 million endowment policies and investment bonds in force where investors received benefits from these policies amounting to £53.6 million per day.
Life Insurance in UK 2009-2010
In 2010, total net premiums (written premium less reinsurance premiums paid by the insurer) for life insurance amounted to £20.928 billion, a decrease of £1.029 billion or 4.69% compares to £21.957 billion in 2009.
The £20.928 billion written premiums can be further divided into £19.561 billion for Life & Annuities(includes Ordinary Branch business, Savings and Protection products, ie Bonds, Endowments, Whole of Life, Term Assurance and Collective Life) and
£1.367 billion for Income Protection & Other Business(includes Long-term Care and Stand-Alone Critical Illness). Life & Annuities premiums decreased by £1.029 billion or 5.00% compares to £20.590 billion in 2009;
while Income Protection & Other Business premiums remained the same as in 2009.
Regular premiums amounted to £8.654 billion, a decrease of £0.504 billion or 5.50% compares to £9.158 billion in 2009. And single premiums amounted to to £11.675 billion, a decrease of £0.419 billion or 3.46% compares to £12.094 billion in 2009.
The £8.654 billion regular premiums is made up of £7.449 billion Life & Annuities and £1.205 billion for Income Protection & Other Business. The £11.675 billion single premiums is made up of £12.530 billion Life & Annuities and £145 million for Income Protection & Other Business.
Benefits paid for life insurance is £36.283 billion in 2010, a decrease of £4.633 billion or 11.32% of compares to £40.916 billion in 2009. The reduction in benefits paid is is inline with the decrease in written premium amount for three straight years.
The £36.283 billion benefits paid can be broken down as £35.536 billion for Life & Annuities and £747 million for Income Protection & Other Business.
There are 48,191,000 of life insurance policies in force as at year ended 2010, an increase of 5,462,000 or 12.78% compares to 42,729,000 as at year ended 2009. 39,856,000 policies is for Life & Annuities and 8,335,000 policies is for Income Protection & Other Business.
Life Insurance in UK 2008-2009
In 2009, total net premiums (written premium less reinsurance premiums paid by the insurer) for life insurance amounted to £21.957 billion, a decrease of £15.789 billion or 41.83% compares to £37.746 billion in 2008.
The £21.957 billion written premiums can be further divided into £20.590 billion for Life & Annuities(includes Ordinary Branch business, Savings and Protection products, ie Bonds, Endowments, Whole of Life, Term Assurance and Collective Life) and
£1.367 billion for Income Protection & Other Business(includes Long-term Care and Stand-Alone Critical Illness). Life & Annuities premiums decreased significantly by £15.71 billion or 43.28% compares to £36.300 billion in 2008;
while Income Protection & Other Business premiums decreased by £0.079 billion or 5.46% compares to £1.446 billion in 2008.
Regular premiums amounted to £9.158 billion, a decrease of £0.561 billion or 5.77% compares to £9.719 billion in 2008. And single premiums amounted to to £12.094 billion, a significant decrease of £15.933 billion or 56.85% compares to £28.027 billion in 2008.
The £9.158 billion regular premiums is made up of £7.917 billion Life & Annuities and £1.241 billion for Income Protection & Other Business. The £12.094 billion single premiums is made up of £1.958 billion Life & Annuities and £136 million for Income Protection & Other Business.
Benefits paid for life insurance is £40.434 billion in 2009, a decrease of £22.159 billion or 35.40% of compares to £62.593 billion in 2008. The reduction in benefits paid is is inline with the decrease in written premium amount.
The £40.916 billion benefits paid can be broken down as £40.024 billion for Life & Annuities and £892 million for Income Protection & Other Business.
