In 2008, the premiums written(primes) for France amounted to €243.7 billion, a decrease of €10.1 billion or 3.98% compares to €253.8 billion in 2007. The benefits and claims paid(prestations) in 2008 amounted to €191.6 billion, a significant decrease of €71.7 billion or 27.23% compares to €263.3 billion in 2007.

Out of the €243.7 billion total premiums written in 2008, €140.6 billion is for life insurance(assurance-vie), a decrease of €15.7 billion or 10.04% compares to €156.3 billion in 2007. The rest of €103.1 billion is for non-life insurance(assurance non-vie), an increase of €5.6 billion or 5.74% compares to €97.5 billion in 2007.
The benefits and claims paid in 2008 for life insurance is €114.7 billion, a significant decrease of €75.6 billion or 39.73% compares to €190.3 billion in 2007. Whereas the benefits and claims paid in 2008 for non-life insurance is €77 billion, an increase of €3.9 billion or 5.34% compares to €73.1 billion in 2007.

Assurance Automobile(Motor Insurance) en Assurance de dommages aux biens(Property Insurance)
In 2008, the premiums written for assurance automobile(motor insurance) amounted to €17,846 million, a minute increase of €159 million or 0.9% compares to €17,687 million in 2007. The benefits and claims paid for assurance automobile in 2008 amounted to €13,523 million, an increase of €503 million or 3.86% compares to €13,020 million in 2007.
In 2008, the premiums written for assurance de dommages aux biens(property insurance) amounted to €13,376 million, an increase of €501 million or 3.89% compares to €12,875 million in 2007. The benefits and claims paid for Assurance de dommages aux biens in 2008 amounted to €7,972 million, an increase of €250 million or 3.24% compares to €7,722 million in 2007.
